Samsung GT-S8500 bringing Bluetooth 3.0

As all of us know that Bluetooth has become an integral feature of almost all mobile handsets nowadays, but what’s so buzzing about the Samsung GT-S8500 Bluetooth application?

Till date all the mobile devices were sold with Bluetooth 2.0 and 2.1 hardware but thanks to Samsung that one can have the first of the mobile devices with Bluetooth 3.0

The Samsung GT-S8500 will be the first phone to swank Bluetooth 3.0 amongst its specifications list. Although Bluetooth 3.0 has been there since early 2009 but Samsung is the only mobile phone manufacturer to introduce it.

One of the key advantages of Bluetooth 3.0 over 2.0 version is the much faster data transfer speeds (24Mbps as compared to 3Mbps) and uses 802.11 as high-speed transport.

The S8500 is supposedly a Full Touch screen slim device boasting of a 3.1 inch OLED screen and will support EDGE/GPRS Quad-Band (850/900/1800/1900) networks. It seems that further details will be revealed at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) on February 15th.

Will Microsoft launch Zune Phone at MWC?

Zune phone rumors have been buzzing the web ever since Zune HD came out last year. It’s still officially rumor at this point, but it’s expected that the Microsoft will launch Zune Phone at Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona this month.

Two models, codenamed Turtle and Pure, are speculated to be the much talked about Zune phones. The phone will supposedly run on the Tegra platform, NVIDIA’s powerful system on a chip that was also used in the Zune HD and will be used by a number of upcoming tablets as well.

Virgin first to offer free home-to-mobile call

Consumers who have their landline with Virgin Media will now be able to make free calls to Virgin mobiles. With this unique offer, Virgin will be the first landline provider in UK to offer free calls to mobile phones. The network will allow its phone clients to ring from their landlines to Virgin mobiles free of charge, beginning in April. The offer can be availed by both new as well as existing customers.

The free mobile phone calls will be added to the unlimited voice calls to UK landline deals already available with Virgin Phone packages, including those with bundled broadband and phone.

At present approximately 10 per cent of Virgin Media customers are subscribed to ‘quadplay’ services, which is bundled product of broadband, phone, TV and mobile.
